TINKARA KOVAC: ''...everyday has its own magic''
Hello Tinkara is a real pleasure to have this opportunity, thank you for give us a space in your busy schedule to answer some questions for fans of Eurovision in Latin America.
For all our readers, tell us:
OGAE RoW Latin America - How do your musical career started?
Tinkara - I fet in love with the music already in my childhood, maestro Bojan Adamič soon discovered my music talent and wrote some youth songs for me. My parents were kind of hippies, they had a lot of vinyls and among them I first came across Ian Anderson, who later on became my idol.
When I heard him playing that magic instrument, the flute, it sounded like listening to a fairytale I wanted to be in, thanks to that early age inspiration for having degree of flute today, and chances to play with Ian Anderson for a few times in my career!
First of my albums was released in 1997 with few singels on it (Ne odhaja poletje/Summer doesn’t bid goodbye, Veter z juga/Wind from the South...) and after that followed other albums, more than 800 live gigs including international collaborations with big artists such as already mentioned Ian Anderson, Robert Plant, Carlos Nunez and many more. You are welcome to read more on my web page: www.tinkara.net
OGAE R.O.L.A. - While you're not on a stage singing, how is a regular day in your life?
Tinkara - As a full time artist I don’t really have ordinary days, everything is twinning with the creativity all the time, but I try to spend my spare time in nature and with family as much as possible, for me everyday has its own magic, especially if you are mother of two lovely daughters.
OGAE R.O.L.A. - What prompted you to submit your proposal on EMA?
Tinkara - You have to grab chances and EMA is one of the biggest to introduce your new song to Slovenian audience, this year's selection for the Eurovision's participant was different than last years, invitations from Slovenian ESC national creative team were sent just to active artists, projects made only for this festival were not included.
I knew that this would be a great evening in a one way or another, because we all knew each other from different music collaborations or other activities with the music background.
OGAE R.OL.A. - Since your song was unveiled, you were the favorite to win the preselection, did you felt in that moment that you would win?
Tinkara - We had a great time with my team before the live streaming started, the atmosphere was relaxed, but then, one moment happened when I received few messages like “See ya in Denmark”, “You’re gonna win!” and I felt the pressure.
The essence of the music is not in competition! Then I called all of them in our backstage to blow that feeling away with singing...and it works, we focused only on our stage performance and did our best.
OGAE R.O.L.A - What will Tinkara offer the audience in May at Copenhagen?
Tinkara - I will try to make message of the song visible to everyone, so people can feel it.
OGAE R.O.L.A. - Spet (Round and Round) is a song with a melody where the flute is vital, what do you feel or think every time you play?
Tinkara - I don’t think, I just feel the flow
OGAE R.O.L.A. - What can you forward us about your presentation in the semifinal? Will be changes in the song? What are you planning for the staging?
Tinkara - The song is holding a very strong message, so there will be much more attention given to present that message to the public.
There are some hard production changes and some high vocal notes added also, stage structure will change.
OGAE R.O.L.A - Eurovision is a festival that annually earns more followers in Latin America; did you know this? What do you think of it?
Tinkara - It is not surprising, because in the matter of fact, Eurovision is a huge event, It’s amazing that also people worldwide follow it.
OGAE R.O.L.A. - Your proposal has been well received by the latin audience, would like to bring your music to our continent?
Tinkara - I am really honoured to hear that music has no borders and, if there will be an opportunitiy to come, of course!
OGAE R.O.L.A. - What are the strengths of Slovenia to be the right host in 2015 and celebrate 60 years of the existence of Eurovision?
Tinkara - Although we are small country with only 2 million people, we have big hearts to host all of Eurovision fans. In fact, we are sLOVEnia.
OGAE R.O.L.A. - Once again thank you for answer us, we wish you the best and hope to see you at the end of May 10, a last message for your followers in Latin America?
Tinkara - Thank you for your support! Music is contagious and a simple way to make your life better.
