Cann-Linn: ''Heartbeat represent not just Ireland, but all of Europe itself''

Hello Can- Linn,

We know that right now you're on tour and we really appreciate that you’re taking time from your schedule to answer some questions, first, congratulations for being one of the five participants selected to represent Ireland in Copenhagen with a song, that includes modern sounds and at the same time it keeps the Celtic sounds that makes people fall in love with your country.

For our Latin Eurofans tell us:

OGAE RoW LATIN AMERICA• How was the process to get into the Irish preselection?

Can-Linn - Basically, it started when Hazel [Kaneswaran] was asked by RTE (Ireland’s national TV and radio network) to mentor an act for the Eurosong, she wanted to do something that would combine traditional Irish music, with the modern urban pop sound which is very popular in Ireland right now, she teamed up with three Swedish music producers (Jonas Gladnikoff, Patrizia Helander and Rasmus Palmgren), and they worked together to create Can-Linn.

OGAE R.O.L.A. • ¨Heartbeat¨ is a strong song, passionate and with the characteristic sounds of the Irish culture, how was this song (one of the favorites to represent your country in Denmark) born?

Can-Linn - It was decided that traditional Irish instruments such as the fiddle and the bodhran should be included in order to give the song a classic Irish sound, we felt that Kasey Smith’s vocals suited the piece really well, powerful and full of charisma – a voice to represent a nation that is going through a hard time, but is determined to power through.

The lyrics are all about persevering and standing united as one, ‘Can-Linn’ comes from the Irish words which mean ‘sing together’.

OGAE R.O.L.A • In case that you win, would you change your entry? Maybe add more Celtic sounds?

Can-Linn - If we do go on to win Eurosong competition, I don’t think it would be fair to change anything about the song since the people of Ireland will have selected it to go to the Eurovision, based on its existing merits, to change it around would be to send a song that the Irish people didn’t choose – that would be unfair.

OGAE R.O.L.A. • Tell us about the experience since you were named participant in the preselection?

Can-Linn - It has been a non-stop thrill ride really, between rehearsals, radio & TV interviews and

performing live shows, we have barely had a spare minute to ourselves, it’s a good thing though, it’s nice to be busy and, working toward the Eurovision is one of the most fun and rewarding jobs in the world.

OGAE R.O.L.A. • Eurovision is an event that not only excites the Europeans but also, many people on the Latino community, did you know that? What do you think about it?

Cann-Linn - We think it’s great that the Eurovision goes out to a global audience, the more the merrier!, maybe someday there will be a super song contest where the whole world can compete and vote for each other. Imagine how cool that would be? Putting the best songs from the Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia and Australia under the one roof for an amazing show!

OGAE R.O.L.A.• Would you like to take your music to our continent?

Cann-Linn - Why not? If enough people want to see us over there it would be a great experience to take the show ‘on the road’, it would be a great opportunity to visit other countries, experience other cultures and perform in front of new audiences.

OGAE R.O.L.A. • What do you have to offer to give Ireland the eighth victory in the festival?

Cann-Linn - Our song has a really good beat to it, with a stage show to match., the lyrics are strong and represent, not just Ireland, but all of Europe itself, if we do win the Eurosong contest and get to play the Eurovision in Copenhagen, there will be a lot of other top quality songs up against us. it won’t be easy but that’s show business, we know we are a good act and, if we continue to work hard every day there’s no reason why we can’t be among the contenders come May.

OGAE R.O.L.A • What are your greatest hopes and fears in this new experience?

Cann-Linn - We’d be lying to you if we said we weren’t dreaming of winning the Eurovision outright, we wouldn’t have entered if we didn’t think we had a chance of doing so. There is no fear, we are delighted to have gotten this far, every day is a new adventure and we feel honoured to be in with a chance to represent Ireland at the Eurovision.

Sabemos que en este momento estás de gira y realmente apreciamos que tomes un tiempo de tu apretada agenda para contestar algunas de nuestras preguntas, en primer lugar, felicitaciones por ser una de los cinco participantes seleccionados para representar a Irlanda en Copenhague con una canción, que incluye sonidos modernos y , al mismo tiempo que mantiene los sonidos celtas, lo que hace que la gente se enamore de tu país.

Para nuestros eurofans latinos, cuéntanos:

OGAE RoW AMERICA LATINA: ¿Cómo fue el proceso para entrar en la preselección de Irlanda ?

Can- Linn: Básicamente , todo comenzó cuando a Hazel [ Kaneswaran ] se le pidió, por parte de RTE (red nacional de radio y televisión de Irlanda), ser el mentor de una canción para el Eurosong , quería hacer algo que combinara la música tradicional irlandesa , el pop moderno combinada con sonido urbano que es muy popular en Irlanda en estos momentos , ella se asoció con tres productores musicales suecas ( Jonas Gladnikoff , Patrizia Helander y Rasmus Palmgren ), y trabajaron juntas para crear Can-Linn.

OGAE R.O.L.A.: ''Heartbeat'' es una canción fuerte , apasionada y con los sonidos característicos de la cultura irlandesa , ¿cómo nació esta canción (una de las favoritas para representar a su país en Dinamarca)?

Can- Linn: Se decidió que los instrumentos tradicionales irlandeses como el violín y el bodhran se deberían incluir con el fin de dar a la canción un sonido irlandés clásico , nos pareció que la voz de Kasey Smith se adapta a la pieza muy bien, potente y llena de carisma - una voz para representar a una nación que está pasando por un momento difícil, pero que está decidida a tomar fuerza de nuevo.

Toda la letra es acerca de la perseverancia y estar unidos como un solo , 'Can - Linn ' viene de las palabras irlandesas que significa ''cantar juntos''.

OGAE R.O.L.A.: En caso de que ganaras, ¿podría cambiar la canción? Quizás añadir más sonidos celtas?

Can- Linn: Si ganamos Eurosong , no creo que sería justo cambiar nada, así la seleccionó el pueblo de Irlanda para ir a Eurovisión, en base a sus méritos ya existentes, cambiarla sería enviar una canción

que el pueblo irlandés no eligió - eso sería injusto.

OGAE R.O.L.A.: Háblenos de la experiencia adquirida desde que su nombre fue incluido como participante de la preselección ?

Can- Linn: Ha sido un ''viaje'' emocionante sin parar de verdad, entre ensayos, entrevistas de radio

y televisión y la realización de shows en vivo, apenas hemos tenido un minuto libre a nosotros

mismos, sin embargo es bueno estar ocupado y , trabajando para poder ir a Eurovisión, es uno de los trabajos más divertidos y gratificantes en el mundo .

OGAE R.O.L.A.: Eurovisión es un evento que no sólo emociona a los europeos, sino también ,

muchas personas en la comunidad latina, ¿Sabías eso ? ¿Qué piensas al respecto?

Cann - Linn: Es genial que Eurovisión salga a una audiencia global, cuantos más mejor, tal vez algún día habrá un súper concurso de canciones  donde todo el mundo pueda competir y votar por los demás! . Imagina lo grato que sería?, incluyendo las mejores canciones de Europa, las Américas, África , Asia y Australia bajo el mismo techo durante un espectáculo, increíble !

OGAE R.O.L.A.: ¿Te gustaría llevar tu música a nuestro continente ?

Cann - Linn: ¿Por qué no? Si suficiente gente quiere vernos por allí , sería una gran experiencia para llevar nuestro show, sería una gran oportunidad de visitar otros países, conocer otras culturas y actuar frente a nuevas audiencias.

OGAE R.O.L.A.: ¿Qué es lo que tienes para ofrecer y dar Irlanda la octava victoria en el festival?

Cann - Linn : Nuestra canción tiene un muy buen ritmo, show en escenario a la altura, las letras son fuertes y representan , no sólo Irlanda, sino toda Europa , si ganamos Eurosong y llegamos a Eurovisión en Copenhague, habrá muchas otras canciones de alta calidad en contra nuestra no va a ser fácil, pero eso es el negocio del espectáculo, sabemos que somos una buena opción y, si continuamos trabajando duro cada día, no hay razón por la cuál no podríamos estar entre los contendientes en mayo.

OGAE R.O.L.A.: ¿Cuáles son sus mayores esperanzas y temores en esta nueva experiencia ?

Cann - Linn: Estaríamos mintiendo si dijéramos que no estamos soñando con ganar Eurovisión de plano, no habríamos entrado si no creemos que tenemos la oportunidad de hacerlo. No hay miedo, estamos encantados de haber llegado tan lejos, cada día es una nueva aventura y nos sentimos honrados de tener una oportunidad para representar a Irlanda en Eurovisión .

Ellen Benedikstson: ''my song is all about the voice and expression''

Hello again Ellen, 

First, thank you very much for your time and accept to answer these questions for eurofans in the OGAE Rest of The World LATIN AMERICA Club, we have many members that are very excited because of your proposal in Melodifestivalen 2014.

For all those fans of ''Songbird'' and your voice:

OGAE RoW Latin America - Tell us a little about your musical career, this is your first time in the Melodifestivalen right?, you should have been be there in the past.

Ellen - My music career has sort of begun with Melodifestivalen, before, I got the offer to participate, I had only performed at smaller stages, I'm 18 and still in school, where I study music. Last year I was stand-in for France in Eurovision in Malmö, the stand-in job was to ease the preparation job for the eurovision producers so that they could work on the lightening, audio, picture and stuff like that before the real musicians arrived, while I was there and sung the french song L'enfer et moi Christer Björkman saw me and thought I was so good, so he called me in october and asked me if I wanted to participate in this year's competition.

O.R.L.A -Songbird is a song that touches the feelings who listen it but, what do you feel when you sing it?

Ellen - There is a lot of feelings when I sing my song, It has really grown on me and in means a lot to me, the song is about finding strength in hard times, to listen your inner voice, your inner songbird when faced with difficulties. 

O.R.L.A. - Once they anounced that you passed directly to the final, you looked more secure in the stage, what will you be offering in the final of Melodifestivalen?

Ellen - I will do my best, but I won't change anything really, this is an amazing journey and I'm gonna make the best out of it, but in the end, I'm a winner anyhow and there isn't really any other way to do this than being myself and doing my thing, hopefully people like it, as long as I am happy about my performance and done my best, nothing else really matters. 

O.R.L.A. - Do you plan to keep the staging or will have some surprises in the final presentation?

Ellen - There won't be that many changes, my song is all about the voice and expression, not so much about the appearance of the stage.

O.R.L.A. -Eurovision has thousands of followers across Latin America, did you know it? What do you think? 

Ellen - No, I didn't know that. That is fantastic!

O.R.L.A. -Do you have plans of an album after the competition in Sweden?, and by the way any plans to conquer a diferente market like de Latin American?

Ellen - I do, we are in working process of an EP-album with Songbird and some other new songs, I'm very excited about that!, it is going to be amazing. ¨Songbird¨ is a beautiful song but I want to show you all I've got and what I can do more, so I'm thinking of a broader sound which you hopefully will like.

O.R.L.A.- What it means to you to represent Sweden in Eurovision? if you win the ''Golden ticket'' to Copenhagen.

Ellen - It would be unbelievable to be the one to represent Sweden, that would be huge, and fun of course!, but a lot of pressure as well.

O.R.L.A. - A last message for your fans in Latin America.

Ellen - Thank you for your support! It means a lot to me, hopefully we see each other in Denmark, until then, take care and cross your fingers the 8th of march... Love Ellen

Ellen Benediktson: ''mi canción es voz y expresión, no tanto apariencia''

Hola otra vez Ellen,

En primer lugar, muchas gracias por tu tiempo y acceder a contestar estas preguntas para los eurofans latinos en OGAE RoW AMERICA LATINA, tenemos muchos miembros emocionados por tu propuesta en el Melodifestivalen 2014.

Para todos aquellos fanáticos de ¨Songbird¨ y tu voz:

Ogae RoW Latinoamérica: Háblanos un poco sobre tu carrera musical, ésta es tu primera vez en el Melodifestivalen correcto?, deberías haber estado antes.

Ellen: Mi carrera musical ha comenzado con el Melodifestivalen, antes de tener la oferta para participar sólo había actuado en escenarios pequeños. Tengo 18 años y todavía estoy en la escuela donde estudio música. El año pasado estuve de sustituta para Francia en Eurovisión en Malmö, el trabajo era facilitar la preparación de la producción en aspectos de iluminación, audio, imagen y ese tipo de cosas antes de que los músicos reales llegaran, mientras estuve allí,  cantado la canción francesa L'enfer et moi, Christer Björkman me vio y pensó que yo era tan buena, que me llamó en octubre y me preguntó si quería participar en la competencia de este año.

O.G.A.E.R.L.A.: ¨Songbird¨ es una canción que toca los sentimientos de quienes la escuchan, pero, ¿qué es lo que tú sientes cuando cantas?

Ellen: Hay un montón de sentimientos cuando canto mi canción, realmente ha crecido en mí y significa mucho. Para mí, la canción es acerca de encontrar la fuerza en tiempos difíciles, escuchar tu voz interior cuando se enfrentan las dificultades.

O.G.A.E.R.L.A.: Una vez que  se ha anunciado que pasaste directo, te viste más segura en el escenario, ¿qué vas a ofrecer en esa final del Melodifestivalen?

Ellen: Haré lo mejor que pueda, pero no voy a cambiar nada en realidad, esto es increíble, al final soy una ganadora de todas maneras, y no hay realmente ninguna otra forma de hacerlo que ser yo misma, hacer lo mío, esperemos que a la gente le guste, mientras yo esté contenta con mi rendimiento y haga lo mejor posible, nada más importa.

  

O.G.A.E.R.L.A.: ¿Tienes planes para mantener la puesta en escena o tendrá algunas sorpresas en la presentación final?

Ellen: No habrá muchos cambios, mi canción es voz y expresión, no tanto apariencia.

O.G.A.E.R.L.A.: Eurovisión cuenta con miles de seguidores en toda América Latina, ¿lo sabías? ¿Qué piensas?

Ellen: No, no lo sabía, eso es fantástico!

O.G.A.E.R.L.A.: Tienes planes de un álbum después de la competencia en Suecia?, algún plan para conquistar un mercado diferente como el de América Latina?

Ellen: Los hay, estamos en proceso de trabajar en un EP- álbum incluyendo  ¨Songbird¨ y algunas otras nuevas canciones, eso me tiene muy emocionada, va a ser increíble!, Songbird es una canción hermosa, pero quiero mostrarles todo lo que tengo y lo que puedo hacer de más, espero les guste.

O.G.A.E.R.L.A.: Que significaría representar a Suecia en Eurovisión si ganas el ¨boleto dorado'' a Copenhague.

Ellen: Sería increíble, grandioso y divertido representar a Suecia, pero algo de mucha presión también.

O.G.A.E.R.L.A.: Un último mensaje para sus fans en América Latina.

Hello Bryan, 

First of all thank you very much for having a few minutes for us, by the way, because of your song ''Curtain Call you'' have a lot of fans in this part of the world, so, for all those reading, please tell us:

OGAE RoW Latin America • ''I Choose U'' is the name of your entry for the 2014 Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, where you will try to win and represent Denmark as host, do you feel pressure to know that, your name sounds very strong to win the Danish preselection, and have the responsibility to defend the title? 

Bryan Rice - Of course it is somehow a pressure but I’m concentrating and focusing every day to be able to handle it and to my very best. I would never have said yes this year again if I wasn’t completely sure that I have the song that it takes to represent DK in the best way in ESC.

OGAE R.O.L.A. • From ''Breathing'', (your entry in 2010) to present, tell us about your experiences and growth as singer and composer? 

Bryan Rice - Actually, it all started long before Breathing. In 2005, 9 years ago, I released my first single No Promises and then it all started. It is a wonderful journey and I’m loving every moment of it. Since Breathing I released 2 albums and I’m currently working on the next, my 5th album. I did two theatre concerts in DK and toured many places ind Scandinavia, Hong Kong, Belgium etc. It is my dream and I fell so lucky that I get to reach out to you all.

OGAE R.O.L.A.• How the possibility of a new opportunity to represent Denmark through DMGP came to your life? 

Bryan Rice - Well, there are 3 big reasons, First of all, I suddenly stood with the right song! That’s most important to me, as it is a SONG contest. Next, Emmelie De Forest got the ESC to Denmark, and that is very important, it means a lot of focus on good pop music, and I’d love to part of that. Last but not least, it’s all your support that makes me want to try again. Every day I see messages that tell me to try and change that silver into gold, and I thought, this is the year!! With that support, I might be able to go all the way!

OGAE R.O.L.A. • By knowing your name as one of the participants of the Danish preselection, many latin fans, put you at the top of their personal favorites, knowing that, would you be willing to visit some of our countries in the future? 

Bryan Rice - There’s nothing I would love more…!! As a spanish speaking, I love visiting Latin America, a few years ago I travelled Argentina, and I know I have so much more to discover! Please, invite me to play for you and I’l come right away!

OGAE R.O.L.A.• What do you think of the great impact that ESC have on the Latino community? 

Bryan Rice: I actually don’t know, but that is what I love the most about music, it travels by itself, crosses borders that you never even knew, so beautiful! It’s our common language and I’m so fortunate to speak it.

En primer lugar muchas gracias por tener unos minutos para nosotros , por cierto, a causa de tu canción ''Curtain Call'', tienes muchos fans en esta parte del mundo, por lo que, para nuestros lectores, nos puedes contar:

OGAE RoW Latinoamerica: ''I Choose You'' es el nombre de tu canción para el Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2014, con la cual vas a tratar de ganar y representar a Dinamarca como anfitrión, se siente la presión de saber que, tu nombre suena muy fuerte para ganar la preselección de Dinamarca, y tener la responsabilidad de defender el título?

Bryan Rice: Por supuesto, de alguna manera hay presión, pero me estoy concentrando y enfocando todos los días para ser capaz de manejar la situación y para dar de mi lo mejor, nunca habría dicho que sí este año otra vez, si no estaba completamente seguro de que tengo la canción que se necesita para representar a DK de la mejor forma en la ESC.

OGAE R.O.L.A.: Desde ''Breathing'', (su canción en el 2010) hasta la actualidad, que nos puedes decir de tus experiencias y crecimiento como cantante y compositor ?

Bryan Rice: En realidad , todo comenzó mucho antes de ''Breathing'', en el 2005, hace 9 años , publiqué mi primer sencillo ''No Promises'' y luego todo empezó, es una experiencia maravillosa y estoy disfrutando cada momento de ella. Desde ''Breathing'', estrené 2 álbumes y actualmente estoy trabajando en el próximo, mi quinto álbum. Hice dos conciertos teatrales en DK y recorrí muchos lugares en Escandinavia, Hong Kong, Bélgica, etc, es mi sueño y me siento muy afortunado de tener la oportunidad de llegar a todos ustedes.

''Breathing'' fue la canción con la que participó en el DMGP 2010

OGAE R.L.A: ¿De qué manera la posibilidad de una nueva oportunidad de representar a Dinamarca a través DMGP llegó a su vida?

Bryan Rice: Bueno, hay 3 grandes razones, en primer lugar, de repente me encontré con la canción correcta!, eso es lo más importante para mí ya que es un concurso de canciones. Después, Emmelie de Forest consiguió el ESC para Dinamarca, que es muy importante porque significa mucha atención a la buena música pop, y me encantaría hacer parte de eso. Por último, pero no menos importante, es todo su apoyo el que me dan las ganas de intentarlo de nuevo, cada día veo los mensajes que me piden tratar de cambiar esa ''plata en oro''  y pensé, este es el año, con ese apoyo podría ser capaz de llegar hasta el final!

OGAE R.O.L.A.: Al conocer su nombre como uno de los participantes de la preselección danesa , muchos fans latinos te colocaron en la parte superior de sus favoritos personales, sabiendo eso, ¿estarías  dispuesto a visitar algunos de nuestros países en el futuro?

Bryan Rice: No hay nada que me encantaría más ... ! Hablo español, me encanta visitar América Latina, hace unos años viajé a Argentina, y sé que tengo mucho más por descubrir,  por favor, invítenme a cantar para ustedes e iré enseguida.

OGAE R.O.L.A: ¿Qué te parece el gran impacto que tiene ESC en la comunidad latina ?

Bryan Rice: En realidad no lo sé, pero eso es lo que más me gusta de la música, que se desplaza por sí misma, cruza las fronteras que ni siquiera sabía, es nuestra lengua común y soy muy afortunado de hablarla.

Samantha Tina: ''Stay'' is different

Hello Samantha,

Thank you for accept our request and dedicate some time for the eurofans in Latin America, first,  we want to congratulate you for being back in the Latvian pre-selection and be one of the favorites to represent your country at Copenhagen with a strong  song as ´´Stay´´ is.

For the latino fans of the festival can you tell us :

OGAE ROW LATIN AMERICA: ¨Stay¨, the song which you will try to represent Latvia, is a dramatic change compared to last year, what was the reason for this interesting twist?

Samantha- This year I didn't wanted to take a part in "Dziesma 2014" but, I couldn't say no to composer of "Stay" there is something from and about me in that song!

OGAE R.L.A.: ¨Stay¨ and your as the performer, is a good recipe, do you think it have enough ingredients to take you to the top and bring Latvia to the top of the table at Copenhagen?, or we can expect more.

Samantha- The song is different, as I used to- so, it's a challenge for me to! and I will do my best! and, yes my team for final changed staging totally, even m look! :)

OGAE R.L.A: What comes to your mind, knowing that you are one of the favorites to win the Latvian pre-selection ? Do you feel safe?

Samantha: Thanks:) No, I'm just not thinking about that, because one think is what are saying professionals, but other- voters! :) 

OGAE R.L.A: Because of your participation in the Eurovision process you have recognition not only in Europe but also in Latin America, is that enough reason to include our continent in you musical career?

Samantha: Of course, it would be an honor to me :)

OGAE R.L.A: Even we can not vote in the contest, Eurovision is a very important event for hundreds of latin people? Did you know it? What do you think about it?

Samantha- I think it's great that you are following this festival, this  make it more global, I'm proud to know that you are followers! :)

Hola Samantha ,

Gracias por aceptar nuestra petición y dedicar parte de tu tiempo para los eurofans en América Latina, felicidades por estar de nuevo en la preselección de Letonia y ser una de las favoritas para representar a tu país en Copenhague con una canción tan fuerte como "Stay"

Para los fanáticos latinos del festival:

OGAE ROW Latinoamérica: "Stay", la canción que tratará de representar a Letonia, es un cambio notable en comparación con la canción del año pasado, ¿cuál fue la razón de este interesante giro?

Samantha: Este año yo no quería participar en "Dziesma 2014" pero no pude negarme al compositor de "Stay" hay algo de mi en esa canción !

''I need a hero'' fue la canción con la que se presentó en el Dziesma 2013

OGAE R.O.W.L.A: "Stay" como canción y tu como artista son una buena combinación, ¿crees que hay suficientes ingredientes para llevar a Letonia a lo más alto de la tabla en Copenhague, o podemos esperar más?.

Samantha: La canción es distinta así que, es un reto para mí y haré todo lo posible y sí, mi equipo ha cambiado la puesta en escena totalmente, incluso mi aspecto :)

OGAE R.O.W.L.A: ¿Qué viene a tu mente, cuando sabes que eres una de las favoritas para ganar la preselección de Letonia? ¿Te sientes segura?

Samantha: Gracias :) No, no estoy pensando en eso, porque una cosa es lo que dicen los profesionales y otra los votantes :)

OGAE R.O.W.L.A: Debido a su participación en el proceso de Eurovisión has ganado reconocimiento no solo en Europa sino también en América Latina, es esta una razón suficiente para incluir a nuestro continente en tu carrera musical?

Samantha: Por supuesto, sería un honor para mí :)

OGAE R.O.W.L.A. Aunque no podemos votar en el concurso, Eurovisión es un evento muy importante para cientos de latinos? ¿Sabías ésto? ¿Qué piensas?

Samantha: Creo que es muy bueno que ustedes sigan este festival, ésto lo hace que sea más global, me siento orgullosa de saberlo. :)

Entrevista a Barney del grupo vocal FOOL MOON - finalistas de la preselección húngara para ESC 2014

"...el a capella, es un estilo válido y competitivo en el pop contemporáneo"

Hola Barney,

En primer lugar, muchas gracias por tu tiempo y por acceder a contestar estas preguntas para los fans del Club OGAE RoW Latinoamerica.

OGAE RoW Latin America: ¿Cómo se conocieron? cuéntanos sobre el comienzo de Fool Moon.

Barney: Fool Moon se formó hace más de una década atrás en el 2001, cuando cinco jóvenes que eran, y son amigos, complaciendo su pasión común por la música coral (por cantar por separado en varios coros), decidieron no sólo cantar música clásica a capella, sino también tratar de hacer música pop sin instrumentos.

OAGE R.L.A. El estilo "a capella" no es muy común en este tipo de competencia, ¿Por qué decidieron participar en el A DAL y tratar de conseguir el "boleto dorado" a Dinamarca?

Barney: La mayoría de las bandas a capella son bandas de covers que realizan sus propios arreglos de canciones conocidas, y ésto es lo que Fool Moon ha estado haciendo desde que se formó, el grupo es muy versátil, los miembros no solo cantan sino que hacen arreglos y escriben canciones originales, tras la excelente respuesta a la primera canción original -escrita por Gabor Molnar y Gergo Racz, integrantes del grupo- la banda sintió que era hora de dar un paso más allá, y entrar en ESC con otra composición original "a cappella". 

El objetivo fue hacer algo radicalmente nuevo en el pop ''a capella'' para mostrar que una canción sin instrumentos podría ser igual de entretenida y válida como cualquier otra canción pop contemporánea.

OGAE R.L.A¿Qué es lo más difícil de interpretar este estilo de música?

Barney: En el estilo a cappella, no hay instrumentos que proporcionan la referencia, ya sea de golpe o de entonación, es un estilo muy delicado que requiere una gran habilidad, la interacción y mucha práctica, para realizar bien una canción, todos los miembros necesitan escucharse el uno al otro .

OGAE R.L.A ¿Cuál fue la inspiración para "It can be over" ?

Barney: Después de su debut como compositor en la preselección de Hungría para Eurovision del año pasado, el joven compositor Máté Bella decidió participar en el evento de este año también, su objetivo era seleccionar un artista único y vocalmente incuestionable y que fue el manager de Máté, quien finalmente le llamó la atención nuestro grupo, dado que Fool Moon es considerado uno de los grupos más innovadores de la escena pop húngara y nuestra carrera internacional está establecida, eso hizo de nosotros un candidato perfecto para este concurso internacional.

En las primeras reuniones, quedó claro que la colaboración con un compositor fuera de la banda sería un proyecto emocionante para Fool Moon también. El compositor y miembro de la banda desde 2004, Gergő Rácz, quien está más que familiarizado con el potencial de la banda, pronto se involucró en el proceso de composición, y la canción es el fruto de los esfuerzos creativos conjuntos, los cuales ofrecen una serie de efectos especiales que van desde la percusión corporal al beatbox. 

Dos letristas experimentados, Attila Galambos y Vajk Szente también se unieron al proyecto. Por lo tanto, todo se preparó para producir un hit fresco y original, lo que demuestra que el "a capella" es un estilo válido y competitivo en el pop contemporáneo.

OGAE R.L.A. Si ustedes ganan, ¿les gustaría estar acompañados de algún instrumento musical en el escenario de ESC?

Barney: La respuesta corta es NO. :-), la respuesta ligeramente larga es: somos un grupo "a capella" y tenemos la intención de mantener esta canción libre de instrumentos también.

OGAE R.L.A.¿Cuánto cree que la propuesta de Fool Moon podría tener un impacto en el ESC?

Barney: En Hungría, la respuesta del público y el jurado a nuestra canción ha sido hasta ahora inmensamente positivo, la gente encuentra muy interesante que un sonido completamente pop, se pueda lograr sin instrumentos y debido a ésto, nuestra canción se considera muy especial y única, sentimos que estas características también prevalecerían en el certamen internacional de ESC también.

OGAE R.L.A.¿Incluirían América Latina para promover su música?

Barney: Por supuesto que sí! Cuanto más lejos llegue nuestra canción, mucho mejor! :-)

OGAE R.L.A. ¿Qué sigue después de A DAL o ESC ?

Barney: Por el momento nos estamos concentrando en hacer lo mejor para la final de el A DAL, nuestros planes para el futuro incluyen la realización de un vídeo para "It can't be over" y tenemos más canciones originales esperando.

OGAE R.L.A.Un último mensaje para sus fans latinos...

Barney: Por favor, dar a todos nuestros fans "latinos" un fuerte abrazo en nombre de FOOL MOON! El público húngaro ha sido involucrado con el estilo "latino a capella" en nuestro Fool Moon Acapella Festival en en Szeged, Hungría.

En el 2008, invitamos al grupo cubano Vocal Sampling, esperamos que algún día nosotros tengamos la oportunidad de encontrarnos con nuestros fans "latinos" en persona!

Interview to Barney from FOOL MOON - A DAL finalist (Hungary for ESC 2014)

''a cappella is a valid and competitive style in contemporary pop''

Hello Barney,

First, thank you for your time and agreeing to answer these questions for eurofans in the OGAE Rest of The World LATIN AMERICA Club.

OGAE RoW LATIN AMERICA- How did you know each other? tell us about the beginning of Fool Moon.

Barney -Fool Moon was formed over a decade ago back in 2001, when five young men, who were and are friends indulging their common passion for choir music by singing in various choirs, decided not only to sing classical music a capella (in choirs), but also try making pop music without instruments.  

OGAE R.L.A.- The ''a capella'' style, is not very comun in this kind of competition, Why did you decide to participate in A DAL and try to get the ''Golden Ticket'' to Denmark?

Barney: Most a cappella bands are cover bands performing their own a cappella arrangements of well-known songs, and this is what Fool Moon has been doing since the group was formed. Fool Moon is a versatile group with members who don't only just sing, but make arrangements and write original songs too. Following the excellent response to the first original song of Fool Moon – written by members Gabor Molnar and Gergo Racz – the band felt it's time to take one step further and enter ESC with another original a cappella composition. We aimed to make something radically new in pop a cappella to show that a song without instruments could be just as entertaining and valid as any other contemporary pop song. 

OGAE R.L.A. - What is the most difficult to deal with, playing this style of music? 

Barney: In a cappella, there are no instruments that provide reference either for beat or for intonation. It is a very delicate style that requires great skill, interaction and lots of practice. To perform a song well all members need to hear one another.  

OGAE R.L.A.- What was the inspiration for ''It can´t be over''?

Barney: After his debut appearance as a songwriter at last year's Hungarian round of the Eurovision Song Contest, young composer Máté Bella decided to participate in the event this year too. He aimed to select a unique and vocally unquestionable artist and it was Máté's manager, who finally drew his attention to our group, as Fool Moon is regarded as one of the most innovative groups in the Hungarian pop scene and our established international career made us a perfect candidate for this international contest.

At the very first meeting it already became clear that collaborating with a composer outside the band would be an exciting project for Fool Moon also. Composer and band member since 2004, Gergő Rácz, who is more than familiar with the band's potential, soon became involved in the composing process, and the song is the yield of their joint creative efforts featuring a number of special effects ranging from body percussion to beatbox. Two experienced stage lyricists, Attila Galambos and Vajk Szente also joined the project.

Therefore, all was set to produce a fresh, original pop hit, which demonstrates that acappella is a valid and competitive style in contemporary pop.

OGAE R.L.A.- If you win, would you like to have any musical instrument with you on stage for ESC?

Barney: The short answer is NO. :-)

The slightly longer answer: we're an a cappella group and we intend to keep this song instrument-free also.  

OGAE R.L.A.- How much do you think your music could impact in ESC?

Barney: In Hungary, the response of the public and the jury to our song has so far been immensely positive. People find it very interesting that a "complete" pop sound can be achieved without instruments and because of this our song is considered very special and unique. We feel these characteristics would also prevail in the international ESC round too.

OGAE R.L.A.- Would you include Latin America to promote your music?

Barney: By all means yes! The farther and wider our song gets the better! :-) 

OGAE R.L.A.- What's next after A DAL or ESC?

Barney: At the moment we're focusing on doing our best at the final round of A DAL. Our future plans include making a video for "It Can't Be Over" and we have more original songs in the pipeline. 

OGAE R.L.A.- A last message for your latin fans...

Please give all our "latino" fans out there big hug on behalf of FOOL MOON!

The Hungarian audience has been introduced to "latino a cappella" at our yearly international Fool Moon Acappella Festival in Szeged, Hungary: In 2008, we invited the Cuban a cappella group Vocal Sampling. We hope one day we'll get a chance to meet our "latino" fans in person!

Interview - RAUL - Preselection Spain 2014

RAUL: "Seguir sin ti is something sober, elegant and classy''.

Hi Raul,

It is a real pleasure to speak with you, we thank you for having some time in your busy schedule, we want to tell you that, eurofans in Latin America received positively, the news about your name in the preselection of Spain this year.

For the fans of the most important musical event in Europe tell us:

OGAE ROW LATIN AMERICA:  After your participation in 2000 (in the local competition) with the song "Sueño tu boca", you had a break of several years in the music, until the release of your album "Contramarea" in 2011, what made you decide to try again to represent Spain?

RAUL: It was not premeditated. I met William Luque by a different project and, when I heard the track ''Seguir sin ti'', I realized it was the perfect theme for my candidacy.

OGAE.R.L.A:  "Sueño tu boca" is a song with a latin beat, with those Spanish sounds that can not be miss in this kind of proposals, now you will try to represent Spain with "Seguir sin ti", a totally different bet. Emotions and expectations that surrounded you while this beautiful ballad was made?

RAUL: It is a safe bet for all audiences, as an artist I always wanted to sing again my origins in music, great ballads accompanied by a loud voice.

OGAE.R.L.A:  According a Spanish online publication, your entry would take a major change , "Seguir sin ti" cease to be a ballad for a more electronic influence ? Can you forward something of the final version?

RAUL: Well, we have already made public and as you will see, is not electronic, only has been modernized a little to have a more current sound.

OGAE.R.L.A:  Your musical style is well received among the Latino community, would you like to boost your career in a future tour in our continent ?

RAUL: I have been fortunate to promote my work in several Latin American countries, and retake that experience would be very rewarding.

OGAE.R.L.A:  The Eurovision projection has impacted very positively in Latin America, we are increasing ourselves every year and we are pending of the different processes of the festival. Did know this? What do you think about it?

RAUL: Of course I was aware, also there are more followers of Festival De Viña Del Mar here in Spain, any fusion of musical cultures is good for the creation and renovation of new genres and trends.

OGAE.R.L.A: ¿What are the main qualities that "Seguir sin ti" and you, have to make this entry the one to represent Spain in Copenhagen?

RAUL: My proposal "Seguir sin ti" is very clear, we present something sober, elegant and classy, it has already worked in other occasions and the song is very up to the festival.

OGAE.R.L.A:  ¿Why do you think since some years ago, representing Spain has been so severely punished at the polls ?

RAUL: I do not think it has been it, there have been occasions when the scores have been very positive as the review, but we can not generalize our participation by the fact that sometimes we have not stand out well.

OGAE.R.L.A:  ¿What do you think would be the formula for your country and star getting results as the one in 2004 in Kiev, where achieved a tenth?

RAUL: If one knew that formula, we all will twist around her, but the festival is excitement and risk, innovation helps to evolve though, sometimes we do not get the desired result.

OGAE.R.L.A:  Again, thank you for your kindness and your willingness to answer our questions, we wish you the best, not only in the pre-selection, but in your career, hopefully to have you visiting our countries later, to finish, please send a greeting to all those fans of the festival in Latin America.
